Manga Review: Monkey Peak

*No SPOILERS
Here’s my review of the panic-horror manga Monkey Peak. If you want to learn a bit more about the yokai I refer to, check out the link to my blog below. Also, http://yokai.com/ is a great resource for major yokai, although I tended to rely on Mizuki Shigeru books that I already have read or am currently reading. Again, thanks to everyone who comments, likes, shares, and most of all SUBS! You are awesome!

Monkey Peak, written by Shinasaka Koji (Tohai) and illustrated by Kumeda Akihiro (Fuchin Attacker), was released in Shukan Manga Goraku September 2016 through November 2019. Volume two includes a special one-off story, *the Rock, and another spin-off, Monkey Circle, ran from October 2018 to January 2020.

The plot follows the employees of a pharmaceutical company on a team-building camping trip to Tanigawadake, a mountain famous for taking over 800 lives, where events take a horrifying turn as a monkey-like creature carrying a hata (a large Japanese woodworking blade) begins to hunt and kill the members. Categorized as panic horror, Monkey Peak is a tense journey of survival, with death coming not only from a humanoid-like bloodthirsty monkey, but from dehydration, starvation, falls, and “friends”. Who will survive the terror of Tanigawadake? What fate will befall those who don’t?

Thanks for watching, and subs, likes, shares, and comments are always appreciated. Mata ne!
